The only time i did this was back in 2009 when i was diggin through some used cd's and saw Percee P's "Legendary Status".

I remember holding on to a couple other used cd's,and passed on Percee P's,maybe because i only had so much money on me,but i forget.

Anyway's,a couple days later i looked it up on AMAZON and 2 people had it and both wanted 75 bucks for it.

So,i went back to that store that night and it was gone.

By the way, right now it's not on AMAZON or GEMM.

Shit must be mad rare..

Edit:I just looked on Discogs and 1 US seller has it for $35.00

Still a rare cd though..There's only 2 places online you can even DL it.

Pharoahe Monch- Internal Affairs

When it dropped, I had just copped my first burner and that album was one of the first albums that I ever burned...My logic at the time was that since I have a burned copy, I don't need the original copy...The local Coconuts store had it for years, in fact on one particular occasion I held onto it for like 10 minutes before putting it back to get something else...Soon after the Godzilla lawsuit kicked in and they stopped manufacturing that album...I think it retails for about $50 now...I had countless opportunities to buy it but technology cockblocked...When I met Pharoahe last year, I asked him about the rumor that he was going to reissue IA- he said he wanted to but he didn't want to do it without including "Simon Says" and that he was trying to figure out a way to include that song but remake the beat to avoid copyright infringement...I think he should holla at the Will Sessions Band, their work on Elmatic was incredible...

Blu & Exile- Below The Heavens

I remember the first edition dropping and the 2 Virgin stores in Manhattan at the time had multiple copies...Of course, again, technology got in the way...I downloaded it and put it on my iPod...I think it dropped in 2007, I did a lot of downloading that year since I started using iPods at the end of '06...I'm not sure how much it's worth now but the reissue is out of print so that says something...

I have a lot people on here say they can't find "Internal Affairs" or don't want to pay high prices online for it.

I bought mine when it first dropped in 99'.

Also, over the last few years (including as recent as late last year)i've seen at least 10 copies in various stores where i live for $7.99 or less.

I've never seen a used hip-hop cd for over $10.00 where i live,and believe me i've found TON's of rare/out of print cd's the last 10 years.

Much of them 5 bucks or less.

It's all about where you live..

I might see 4 copies of something rare in stores where i live, and someone else in Atlanta might not even find it there.

And obviously, the internet plays part of finding something, and then seeing how much it is.

That's why it never hurts to do things the old school way.

GO OUT AND DIG FOR CD'S AND VINYL!

You never know, you might get lucky.

I need to start looking thru my cds from high school. I used to shoplift whatever came out each week for a few years so I got like 400 cds just sitting in a closet now. Even though I wasnt paying for the cds...I thought about returning Willie D's Play Witcha Mama cd.

I passed on a lot of shit back in the day just for the simple fact that there was so much dope shit coming out at the same time and I only spent my money on the shit I really wanted first, so I prioritized, but I ended up getting them later on...

In recent years, I kicked myself for passing on Three Times Dope - "Original Stylin'" CD for like $12, goes for mad dough now I think...

But I recently found 8-Off - "Wrap Your Lips Around This" CD from 1995 for like $3, discogs is selling it for $122 !, so you win some you lose some...

"Original Stylin" on AMAZON is going ( in VG condition) from 53-122 bucks, haha.

I bought that cd in 1990..Close to a year after it dropped.

1990 was the first year i started buying cd's.

I was buying only vinyl from april/may 88 until 1990.

I started buyin CD's in 1990 as well, July 4th weekend to be exact, which I guess would have been Saturday July 7, 1990

fascinating.

LOL at Luke

Wicked

When i first started buying vinyl in 88 i would take the price sticker, which also had the date printed above the price, from when the store got that record in,and stick it inside the sleeve.

I have probably 75% or more of my records from 88 through about 94 or so,like that.

It's cool to look in side my records and see what date i bought the record/when the store got it in.

I did that because i took the clear wrap off the record, because people would say keeping the wrap on records would warp them if they got any kind of heat near them.

Eventually i bought ton's of plastic sleeves and placed them on shelves.

I bought cassettes more than anything in the 80's and early 90's, i was never into vinyl to be honest but i had a few records and always liked the scratching, mixing and blendin aspect of it, plus sound quality and speed of a record was always better than cassettes, cassettes had more bass and that's what i loved about them...

Haha, I keep all the labels and stickers that come on the packaging too.

I'm not sure if I ever passed on anything valuable because I used to just buy everything I could get my hands on. Would walk out record stores with 15-30 cd's almost every week for years.

I bought that Internal Affairs CD when it first dropped. It was during that Rawkus era where Soundbombing 2, Black on Both Sides, Internal Affairs, etc all dropped so i was copping all of them. Fucked up part is i think i lost my copy of Internal Affairs cause i was digging through all my CD's a year ago when i moved and don't remember seeing it. I'll have to go check later and see if i still got it.

Another CD that goes for dough now that i copped the day it came out was LA The Darkman - Heist of The Century. I remember it came out the same day as Tical 2000 and it was much doper.

i would always see that K dee album ass, gas or cash...lol something like that...in a $2 loan store but by the time i went to pick it up it was gone.....ebay always sells it for around $35-40 but im just hoping to find it second hand again.

Also i seen masta ace disposable arts at a different store for like $5 but passed up on it since i had it....it was always there...then i lost my copy and when i went back to get it someone snapped it up..doh!
So i need a copy of this one (and by copy i mean an OG copy not a cdr burn).

heist of the century is still pretty rare actually. it was one of the least pressed up wu fam albums. sure you could get anything the day it dropped and think it's not rare, but this day and age it's tough to find a used copy for under $15 if you wanted one.

i think i sold mine to aeokq on this very board a while back. i don't remember.

i remember passing up on a copy of 'soul on ice' around 2001....still kick myself for that shit.

"^Dude, don't be a dick... sell it to him for around the price you paid. You said you bought it for $7, right? Well be a nice guy and tell it to him for $10, or $12 with shipping. C'mon, man."

That makes no sense Wicked. If u bought a couple Michael Jordan rookie cards when they came out for a buck a piece...Theres no way in hell ur giving em away for just a few dollars more just to be nice.

I had a couple of CDs which I bought and sold on for a tonne.

Bought ras kass - soul on ice for a couple quid and sold it for about 70.

Bought mf doom - operation doomsday when it first came out and I made like £100 a few years later.

Other than that, I got a shit load which I won't sell. But in the uk you don't often find rare hip hop CDs & barely any underground. Most of the rare shit is stuff I picked up from its release date.

i have Pharoahe Monch- Internal Affairs & LA The Darkman - Heist of The Century.

didn't know they were rare.

I meant more like hard to find at a decent price since they've both been out of print for a long ass time. Also both are personal classics for me.

I looked for that Monch last night and couldn't find it. Fucking pissed that i might've lost it.

Nine-Nine Livez

I had a dub of this back in the day. I saw it in a record store a few years back on cd and didn't think anything of it. Then later that night I looked it up online and seen it was worth some dough. I went back and bought it for like $4.99 and sold it on ebay for like $50.

2 or 3 years ago I was up at cd warehouse, had absolutely no money on me so I was pretty much window shopping to kill time.

Ran across a brand new, still sealed Soul on Ice for $12. Never been so bummed in my life to be broke. Needless to say it was gone by the time I got my cash together

Got a real job shortly after to make sure that shit never happened again

This is kinda shady but I used to hide rare CD's in stores if I knew they were hard to come by and I was low on cash at the time. Go back later and buy them when I can. Worked many times for me.

Math...30,000 CD's for store credit or sell back...Lets say you did that with half of them and only got $5 each. That's 75G's right there. If you were as good as you say, you should have made a lot more than that. Just saying.

I worked in a music spot for a minute and would get first dibs on all the rap stuff coming in new or used.

I was the only major hip hop head out of the crew.

I basically worked there for music and not money.

Not a lot of those spots left.

Wicked, you'd save a lot of money and maybe make a bit more.

I would think you would be able to moonlight too.

Rasputins still open in Berkeley?

You work every summer?

Dude, you could do a four hour shift a few days a week.

Glad to hear Rasputins is still going.

I knew Amoeba was still open.

You get paid, store discount, probably get used for cost...

Are they still spinning vinyl in the stores?

many of the albums people are mentioning are out of print, that doesnt necessarily make them rare.

i dont have receipts or stickers or any of that shit but i could probably remember where i bought 75% of my albums. If not, then I could at least remember the first time listening to 'em, and i got over 1000 cd's.

Maybe you could influence their orders or they would special order for you.

I can see you don't want to do any extra work but if I was buying as much as you, I'd be working a part-time just for the music.
