would surprise us here.

^^^this set the tone for everything asap mob did, this album specifically, especially ferg. shit is so raw and dusted the fuck out. im sober but could totally see smoking a dip and taking a handful of somas to this album. holy balls, top 10 southern rap album.

^^^such a shame he got booted from the demigodz. fuckin homophobic bullshit wen louis prolly gets more pussy than they all do aside from celph. this album if on a major label at the time would have been hugely successful. its got some of the best rap "love" songs ive ever heard. from "the line" to "the withdrawl method" its great. and with classic louis logic shit like "classy mcnasty". its great

^^^awful, absolutely awful. this was on the cusp of hipsters wen ther was such a thing as "scene kids" kinda half emo and half hipster. but this album is great. "shoot down the stars" and "new friend request" are perfect for that time period and the song "on my own time" is def in the top 500 rap songs for me. the list is long and 500 doesnt sound like much but it is. this album changed shit for a lil and had more impact than i think travis mccoy was ready for. dude is a certified cunt but he can rap and has a good voice. damn shame.

name yours...

i don't know if any albums i liked would come to a surprise to yall at this point, but here are a few i never really see talked about or that other people on here dont seem to enjoy nearly as much as me.

i first heard about this group via the "modal soul classics" compilation nujabes put out, specifics had a track on there called under the hood. this album has stuck with me all this time and is one of the first albums that comes to mind when i think of jazzy hip hop. i realize golden boy is far from the best rapper, in fact hes pretty average and unremarkable, and think twice isn't the best producer either, but there's something about this album that has kept me coming back to it time and time again since i first heard it over 10 years ago. there's so many great, addicting tracks on here... under the hood, craig's house, lonely city, patience, that's just gold, that is why, take me back. i go back to those all the time. their second album was good too.

i'm not a fan of everything saul williams puts out, but this is one of those albums that made me completely re-evulate the way i think about hip hop and what it could be when i heard it, along with dalek, and antipop consortium. it blurs the line between hip hop and straight up spoken word/slam poetry but i love the production on here and overall energy.

one of the best albums of 2006 imo, even though i realize it was recorded about a decade earlier imo kev-roc has one of my favorite flows/voices in hip hop and i love x-ray's dark beats on here. someone pointed out that kev-roc sounds like a mix of rock & gift of gab, and i think that's pretty accurate. the way he rides the beat on visions of a blur is so dope.

i always always liked kid cudi's first man on the moon album, and power of the dollar by 50 cent. theres a lot of stuff i loved when i was younger that i couldn't care less about nowadays. i'm not embarassed by any of it though, i'm sure there are shitty albums out there i once liked that sparked a chain of events leading me to some of my favorite artists now.

Waka Flocka Flame- Flockavelli
Great album for the system to play on loud. Lex Luther absolutely nailed it and this was Waka was at his rawest

100's- Ice Cold Perm
Truly quality pimp rap. Incredible beats and such a unique, eccentric rapper. 100's is now a singer and doesn't rap anymore at all.

Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg- Mac And Devin Go to High School

When I first heard this album I thought it was the end of Snoop. Cash grab collab where he pretends to be a highschool stoner, give me a fucking break. Upon being forced to listen to it for 2 summers of beach rides with my buddies, it grew on me heavily. Once I saw the producer credits I understood why: Jake One, Cardo, Nottz, Exile, Warren G, and Drumma Boy. Snoop and Wiz have a knack for executing infectious choruses...this is a must listen for me now every summer

I wouldn't say I love any of these, but I like them and listen to them occasionally...

drake - views

I don't like drake much, but to me this has been him at his most listenable.

rugged man - legends never die

this album was like half flat out bangers and half trash, but to me the good outweighed the bad....learn truth, media midgets, and bang boogie are so dope.

yelawolf - love story

don't know why but I feel like this record has some gems on it....sure it comes across as corny at times, but I feel like it's a pretty heartfelt and genuine album.

top 5 southern album oat. love this shit. that "word of mouf freestyle" is so fucking amazing to me but the whole album is great. luda is far beyond wat neone would think a southern rapper would sound like, especially on this.

yeah i've mentioned before how much i miss the jazzy/soulful upbeat sounding hip hop from the early to mid 2000s. specifics, surreal & the sound providers, CYNE, people under the stairs, little brother, pase rock, five deez, strange fruit project, nujabes, substantial, jazz addixx, lone catalysts, all natural, shinsight trio, y society, panacea, crown city rockers, jazz liberatorz, j-live.. that's the type of stuff i was listening to in high school, and that i still go back to regularly. there honestly don't seem to be a lot of new artists making music that have a similar vibe/sound.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis The Heist is a great album that I'm guessing a lot of people on these forums don't like. I don't recall it being discussed upon its release, but based on the general consensus of what people seem to like on these forums i'm guessing it wasn't well received.

i liked his earlier stuff circa 2005, and the subject matter is whatever to me, but what really makes me kinda dislike him as an artist is how apologetic he is for the recognition he gets, being humble is one thing but he crossed that line into straight up white guilty/ass kissing territory when he apologized to kendrick because macklemore won the grammy over him.

^^^yea hes a massive pussy. basically the bernie sanders of rap music.

i dont need to apologize for being white. i never sprayed a black man with a hose or stepped foot on the rap football field and acted like i was inventing the wheel cuz im white and just as good as a black dude. i enjoy black people and they enjoy me cuz im not afraid to be white. half the wiggers on this site would get slapped by a black dude and prolly have all white friends

yeah, and it's not like the grammy's really mean anything so what's the point?

another it don't agree with is the reaction he got for that "same love" track where people were saying he took advantage of the attention he was getting and made that song to cash in because it was a big topic at the time. that album was released before he blew up, no one really cared about who macklemore was until the thrift shop video and same love was already out at that point. people are dumb. so yeah, not really a big fan of his music but i do think he gets some unwarranted hate.
