with his latest release is it time for Em' to call it a day? Its cringeworthy pop fluff, the type of music a young Em' would have hated....

but after achieving what he has in his career should he be able to just indulge and make any type of music he wants or does this tarnish his discog....does it matter? I like to think I don't care but listening to this, I think wtf was he thinking? Why not make a decent track, that hook and piano is just so weak....

I saw some shit female tv presenter ooohing and ahhhing about how much she just loves Eminem, her show is such a pile of useless fluff normally about what fashion to wear and shit stars get up to in hollywood, and she just loves the don't give a fuck Em'? Has he become the pop star that he has so detested in his career....

does it matter? He was never going to save Hip Hop but does it really need saving or has it now reached the peak of its cycle and now its time for a new music form to evolve?

Either way I hate this track its shit but got 18+ million views and his new LP will go Platinum but I still think its time to hang up the mic'

Hip-Hop will continue to evolve. No need for a new genre to take its place

he's a dope MC but he's having trouble staying relevant. This new style he's adapted over the last few years is terrible. His beat choice is suffering, and he's trying to make that next bit hit.

I'm not saying anything new...I hope he doesn't ruin his legacy by continuing down this direction

he should have stopped after eminem show imo, or even encore even though that album wasn't great. now it's gotten to a point where 50% of his discography is trash and i think that does hurt his legacy. it's not like he's inconsistent either, where he puts out a great album followed by a bad one - he's just been putting out weak projects consistently for a decade now. what makes it worse is that it seems like a conscious decision, like this is genuinely the type of music he wants to be making lol.

if he decides to go rambo on an album with all alchemist, premo, daringer and oh no beats he might create a dope project. but he would need to also keep the singers and mediocre guest emcees off it too.

you never know.

MMLP2 showed that Em can still drop dope shit when he wants to. Bad Guy was a good follow up to Stan. Legacy and Headlights were both dope introspective tracks. Brainless, Evil Twin, and Rap God was evidence he can still go bar for bar with any emcee.

The problem is that his output since then has declined more and more. He started doing these ridiculous accapella only freestyle sessions. One of his early appeals were his zany, witty, etc freestyle sessions where he'd ride a beat and rip it to threads with insane wordplay. Replay value galore. These accapella's have some 'wow factor' bars but have no flow to them and have zero replay value.

His flow is choppy, angry/calm/angry style of spitting not good, and song making has declined too. I have little hope for this album. If it's trash bin then yea id say the run should be up.

^ i think his hit and miss and latest pop hit has to do with these 3 things:

1)he has stockholm syndrome. he seems to have surrendered to his captors (jimmy ivine, interscope, industry as a whole and its bonuses). It's like he sees he cant top his top albums or get another big dre album so he's just conforming to keep that huge spotlight and fame and money on him. he get benifits but its like he sold his soul and the beats are gonna suck cause he has to play ball with the industry.

2) he knows a real raw rap album with hard beats isnt really his style and he is scared to try that and he has grown to like and expect the perks, comforts and financial excess of selling out to the big label and his boy jimmy.

3) he's frustrated cause he knows he cant come with a raw album cause interscope wont let him and he would lose many mainstream fans who love his sing songy emotional tracks and soft beats SO he's being reactionary and saying fuck it- i'll just stay a big popular platinum artist, play ball/sell out.

it blows my mind to this day why eminem has never done a side album with all hard raw beats by alchemist, premo etc? its like he's locked into the commercial agenda and cant get out.

Yea no mask it makes zero sense to me. He doesn't need album sales at this point. He's got Alchemist as his in-house DJ yet chooses to spit over shitty Boi-1da beats instead lulz. Doesn't make sense to me at all.

This track is an example of what he should be doing...

What i think it boils down to is he just enjoys all the commercial garbage nowadays and tries to emulate it. I mean shit, there's a rumor that 2Chainz is going to be on the new album.

^damn, his energy, flow, lyrics all sounded so dope on the i got cha open beat. i really think he sees doing a raw, hard album as not worth the risk and is playing it safe where he gets major perks and bonuses $$ with the industry so we get soft songs, 2 chainz features etc. he's also so used to being cozy in that comfort zone. you can hear the nostalgia in his rhymes too. he misses being the huge eminem. funny on that new track with beyonce "walk on water" he talks about letting fans down- "why is the bar so high" etc. but he comes with no beat! its like a fucking ballad. on one hand its i wanna be true and on the other its i'll just coast with the pop shit.

Em could drop a Country Album and his bitchs will claim he the greatest country artist ever.
Em is the Hip Hop Elvis.
White folks feel comfortable with Em because the skin colour.

Another rumor was that Dre had his hand in some aspect on the new album. Either way i hope it drops this Friday so i can either have a renewed interest or just throw in the towel.

Rich Rubin produced the Walk On Water beat and its asscheeks. Hope he doesn't do any other tracks. The ones he did on MMLP2 were wack, including the wasted potential of the Em/Kendrick collab.

So true SC. I was reading Twitter comments on the video. One Stan said he had to listen to it a bunch of times until he really enjoyed it. Brainwashing shit lulz. I mean i get having to listen to a track a few times to really digest it but dude came off as if he forced himself to like it cause it's an Eminem song.

Yo SC can you cop me one of these?

I'm definitely a super fan but also a realist. He's been mostly shit last few years and although I'll never stop checking out his new shit, i dont have the same hype i did leading up to Relapse and Recovery.
