I was going to make this thread later tonight but since i don't know if ill be on or not figured ill make it now. As with the last time, we're going to do 4 rounds (around 55 or so albums per round as there were slightly over 200 albums nominated) and users are going to vote their Top 5 in order with favorite being number 1 and so on down through 5. The number 1 album is worth 5 points, number 2 album 4 points, etc. The 5 albums that total the most points in each round will advance to the final round, which will be posted on Thursday. The second round will go up tomorrow followed by rounds 3 and 4 at various times on Tuesday. Voting for all rounds closes Wednesday night.

Eyedea and Dilla are both Top 10-15 albums for me in '09. Chamber Music was more like an EP and was hampered by all the dumb skits/interludes. I know no mask loves it but Elizabeth was a disappointment for me. Both Torae and Marco are ok but overrated at what they do.

Clock, is it me or are all the rounds lists top-loaded, meaning most of the best stuff always in the top 20% of the list...is this done purposely?

i've definitely noticed that too. i don't think clock actually uses a randomizer to split the nominations up so it seems like a lot of the more obvious picks that were listed early on end up in the first two rounds.

i'm pretty sure clock has spoken on it before but i don't remember what his reasoning was. i know he tries to split up the bigger releases between the rounds, but it's possible that the reason they're always at the top of the list is to make them more visible.

I usually cut/paste the nominations onto a word document in the order they're nominated. So usually the best albums are nominated early on. When i put each round together ill take 2 or 3 of those AOTY nominees and start with them then work my way randomly down the rest of the list. So thats why it seems like the list is top heavy. There are times ill throw in popular albums halfway down or towards the bottom of the list. For example Chamber Music is down lower in the list in this round.

I try my best to make each round as even as possible but half these albums I've never even heard so there's times it's not as even as id hoped.

clock - i think by the throat might be eyedeas best work. that album is genre bending and super forward thinking, with many influences from outside of hip hop so i get why many fans of more traditional stuff would hate it. plus it also came out at a pivotal point in my life so i might have more of an attachment to it than many people on here. shame he passed away when he did because he and abilities seemed to be taking their music in an interesting direction.

Depart From Me was emo garbage but By the Throat is on a different level. Production is terrific and Eyedea just sounds so much more authentic in what he's spitting as opposed to Cage who had a drastic identity change and came off try hard.

I remember the first time seeing the video for I Never Knew You. It was like 3am on MTV2 and i was asking myself the fuck was this emo shit i was watching. When the end title said Cage i had to google to see if it was the same Cage that dropped Movies For The Blind. I couldn't believe my eyes lulz.
