you being serious gino? i know that's always been the joke with his earlier stuff, but his last two records in particular have been way less cryptic. i know you've said you don't really focus on the lyrics as much these days, but i think anyone who is even half paying attention would be able to grasp what he's talking about on each track on the impossible kid after a couple of listens.

^^^i liked impossible kid way more than skelethon and i def see thats hes focusing more on themes and less abstract rambles but hes a mood thing for me and like i said, i dont really care for the beats he makes. he kinda ruined the 3rd felt album.

fair enough, i love his production, on those last two records in particular, but i also am a huge fan of el-p's production and i know you're not. so you only like the aesop projects that blockhead handled the majority of the production on? i take it didn't care for bazooka tooth then, lol

i own most of his music but yes i like his early stuff way better. his first 2-3 projects were great even tho we will go back to his nonsense raps but he was dope regardless. just a mood thing like nething else really. hes one of the more successful "underground" rappers to, which i respect.

aesop is good in small doses like 1 12 inch every 5 years, he cant hold down a album and is only good on guest features when he doesnt over do his long drawn out verses.

one of my all time favorites. I go to every show I can.

Been a fan throughout his entire career, back when it wasn't "cool" to like him because of how he rhymed. I'm glad the past few years the hip-hop community opened more up to him. He's a huge talent

Tippi - Billy Woods confirmed it in a podcast I was listening to, and some dude on Twitter asked Block about it and he pretty much confirmed it.

Ollie I haven't been punched in the face in a while which is disappointing since you promised you were going to come and punch me in the face a while ago.

The track on ig sounds dope but it's only a short snippet

What did you guys think of The Uncluded? I never got into it, but I heard him in an interview say that Kimya Dawson influenced him to "cut to the fucking chase" or something to that effect. I'd say it shows.

the uncluded album is alright but it's without a doubt the aesop rock album i listen to the least (along with music for earthworms)

their styles clash pretty hard on the album and i can see how that would be a negative for some people, but the combination works for me on there i'd say 60-70% of the time. there's a good balanced between the darker storytelling tracks and the ones that are a bit more lighthearted/fun, and there's some catchy melodies and hooks on there. really i just have difficulty getting through the albumin one sitting since it's an hour long. kind of gets tiring 35-40 minutes in, and there are definitely some tracks that outshine the rest so i think they could have trimmed the fat a bit. i also don't love all the production, lyrically aesop is as good as ever and it's interesting to hear him rap over these more folky instrumentals but i really prefer the tracks that lean more into the hip hop genre.

best tracks on there to me are

bats
boomerang
tv on 10
the aquarium
delicate cycle

i can definitely hear the influence that artists like kimya, homeboy sandman, and open mike eagle have had on aesop's writing style in the last few years though

Uncluded is actually my favorite project from him. I didn't "get it" at first, but then I went and saw them perform it live and it all clicked. Conceptually and lyrically it's him at his absolute best.

His story on "tv on 10" is the GOAT storytelling song in Hip Hop and easily one of his top 10 verses ever.
