i live in the lily white burbs now and hiphop just doesn't sound as good in the truck when I bump it driving through

when I'm back in the city and bump hiphop it sounds good

why is this?

have you experienced this?

I was thinking it could be based on lyrical subject matter but then I still experience this vibe when listening to abstract rap that isn't really hood related

maybe imagery from yo mtv raps music vids

my listening experience is more effected by weather than urban vs rural landscapes. Summer= west coast bangers + more hip hop in general to play loud through open windows. Winter= New york gritty rap and l brooding indie rock/instrumental stuff

i usually dont follow the guidelines of hot or cold weather music but it certainly makes it sound better if it reflects those things but honestly ill honor wen it rains and put on rainy music. other than that, its watever im in the mood for.

i can enjoy most music any time/place but the listening experience is definitely enhanced if the music itself matches the environment or my mood. i've always listened to certain genres more than others depending on the season, like as soon as winter rolls around and i start being able to see my breath i start playing a lot of black/sludge metal, and in the summer i'll listen to stuff that's more upbeat and positive. jazz/soul is my go to rainy-weather music.

i also feel like theres music that's inherently "nocturnal", where i find myself being able to appreciate it a lot more late at night. it's this way for a lot of instrumental/electronic music i listen to, or darker hip hop like ka.
