i don't believe in choosing a religion. i believe religion was created to divide people and keep people under control. i don't believe in athieism, none of it. just do you. if you got a good heart it will show and people will see it. of course, everyone has their own beliefs. i do believe in a higher power, but it all boils down to what your definition of GOD is. Some people think it's an invisible man lol, not quite. An ultimate cosmic force is how I view good. Good (light) energy, and Evil (dark) energy. I was talking to this kid who was a devout christian. and thats cool, but he was explaining to me, or trying to, how the muslim religion was 'demonic'. He was saying that 'they' kill numerous christians in the name of 'their' God.
all I had to say to him, was
you know how many millions of people have been killed in the name of christianity, catholiscism and christ?
I told him to look up 'The Cruisades' and the knights templar...
Just because a group of 'muslims' kills others in the name of their religion, doesn't mean the religion calls for the killing of others from said religion.

The bible that you read to day is not only a completely different, more condensed version of the bible that was written 'in biblical times', the stories of jesus christ were not written into there until atleast a full generation post-humous.
You guys remember playing the telephone game in class.. you're telling me within a group of people a story can get misconstrued, but throughout many many people and many many years it couldn't have been?
The quaran had been there during Jesus, before Jesus, and after Jesus. I feel like, if anything their depiction would be more on point.
Muslims don't believe Jesus was the son of God, they don't believe he was crucified and they don't believe he was resurrected.
I feel like the bible is more of a set of symbolic stories to live your life by. to learn morals. I don't think its literal, because, why would an infalable God that represents all that is holy, pure and beautiful tell someone to murder their son in his name?(abraham).
I feel like that is another one of the symbolic parts of it teaching you to trust and believe in God no matter what and no matter how hard times get..
Now with christianity, the whole basis(not saying its wrong at all) is glorifying christ.
How can you teach generation after generation after generation post-christ to believe, love and follow a certain figure?
make them supernatural, make them surreal.
I feel like the resurrection of Jesus Christ is symbolic for starting anew and new life.
Theres a reason we celebrate easter in the beginning of spring.
Spring represents the end of winter and the life cycle starting anew.
Look up Eastre(I believe it is)...
It started as a celebration of a German pagan religion celebrating the same thing.

I have so much to say about organized religion i could take up pages. I grew up going to church 6 days a week. Lets just say I've gotten over it. I am to the point where I understand that I believe nothing. There are some things we just will not understand because we can't. I've been on the other side a couple of times, lets just say I can't describe what it is, but it's not final either.

Yeah fitswell, there's been thousands of case studies from patients who had NDE's, some blind since birth, some no electricity in the brain, and still came back with the same stories about a light, and talking to "god" as if having an outer body experience. Atheism doesn't believe in supreme beings or gods.
So they don't believe in a supreme existence. To me Energy is an existence, so it can be considered a being in my point of view. The very state of consciousness need's some kind of energy to exist in my point of view. There's light energy, and dark energy. Light energy is filled with love, and life. A being isnt just an existence of something. A book exist but its not a being. Energy exist but its not a being. Therefor it cant be a god. Energy is also not supernatural, which further shows its not a god. Energy doesnt control your fate, it has no totalitarian authority over you or your existence.

the notion that all things can be explained through science is a belief. unproven. religion...science. nothing more than a belief system rooted in faith, albeit faith in different principles. the religious say dont do it because god says not to and do it because god says so. the scientist says do it or not do it because i can. both can lead to destruction. both good.
scientist at the cern collider looking for the higgs bosom particle know there is a mathematical possibility of a black hole developing that can swallow the earthshould they discover this particle. their belief in unearthing answers to their questions is worth this risk to them though their is no PROOF it will get them any closer to discovering satisfying answers about existence, and would destroy the earth pursuing it, becuase they can. religious would never endeavor because they feel they already know about how they were created nd why they are here. its not beyond them to kill for their beliefs either.

lol, so ready to argue without hearing or listening to the statement first. I never said a book wasnt energy, I said it was a being. A Being is of consciousness, mortal, of the nature blah blah blah. Energy is NOT a being either. A Being is made up of energy like anything else but it doesnt make energy a being, shit we're made up of cells, water etc, doesnt make those beings either. The entire notion that discovery is worthwhile is a BELIEF. The notion that discovery is worthwhile to the point of dedicating ones life holds out a faith that rivals any religion. The notion that discovery is worthwhile in light of possibly destroying the entire planet is belief and faith and dogma perhaps worse than any religion. Those scientists at cern for example could have the best intentions in the world but if they succeed only to suck the world into a black hole wtf...They risk that because they have faith there cause is worthwhile despite their not being any PROOF that it is. Proclaiming the pursuit of knowledge as the ultimate endeavor perhaps worth destroying the planet because there is no strong proof we wont is as subjective as the ex addict that claims JESUS saved him and requires similar faith. sorry, I'd have to disagree Opus. thing about religion is, it ABSOLUTE, THE TRUTH and ONLY TRUTH. but it holds no proof or evidence to its claims. If something presents itself to show that the certain religious beliefs were in fact incorrect, then what religious groups try to do is put that new found discovery and try to incorporate it into their beliefs instead of saying " ok, we were wrong" like the theory of evolution, they denied it for years and now accept it, but say Evolution was created by intelligent design (God). Scientist may be steadfast in their beliefs but at least their beliefs come from some kind of logic, reason,evidence and proof. there is NONE within religion. Scientist are always ready to research and correct their selves, learn and progress whereas religion stays the same, because if they show change and admittance to being wrong, then it kind of debunks the whole PERFECT DEITY belief.
Also if science discovers a black hole, Im pretty sure it wont be within the Earths atmosphere, and also who's to say What the Black hole really is? Thats based off of scientific THOUGHT and theory lol, back to science again, at least you know scientist are correct or more believable than this invisible guy in the sky, who's sexist, racist, allows rape, slavery, murder, and is jealous.

I don't really talk about religion that much because some people need that crutch and I don't believe in abusing the handicapped... But if I were going to talk about it I would have to say it's all a creation to control. Think about it, the only time we just accept things with no tangible proof or explanation is religion.

Lot of talk about science on this thread so I figured I'd weigh in...
Remember that science does not really prove or disprove anything. Science presents theories and modular frameworks that explain observations and allow us to predict the behavior of systems. Truth itself is outside of the mandate of science.
A good example is atomic theory. The current model of the atom is very different from what it was 100 years ago. As new data is acquired the model changes to accommodate the new information and jive with observations. Whether there really are neutron, protons, and electrons is not for science to say. What it does say, is that if we use this model that includes protons, neutrons and electrons, we obtain results that are consistent with our observations.

WOW ..These topics always spark a debate that can never be proven - 1 way or the other. It's all belief (Even science to a degree). A lot of people on here know where I stand on the topic the same way I know where they stand on it. Saying that, I've yet to get into with anyone here coz it's a redundant argument.
